Responsibilities
- Own technically complex, mission-critical areas and deliver outcomes with significant autonomy.
- Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities.
- Design and ship full-stack features across backend services, APIs, frontend, and potentially mobile.
- Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to turn ambiguous operational problems into technical plans and measurable outcomes.
- Build and scale systems for AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and operator workflows.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and quality and velocity leadership.
- Promote Samsara’s cultural principles while helping the organization scale globally.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend web or mobile development.
- Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks such as Go, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, and React, or similar technologies.
- Experience leading cross-team or cross-organization projects from inception through rollout and delivering measurable impact.
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products and translating AI capabilities into customer-facing products.
- Strong communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of building zero-to-one products, substantially improving systems, or solving difficult technical problems.
- Preferred experience shipping production AI-powered features such as LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI.
- Preferred familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows using Cursor and LLMs.
- Background with operational data such as telematics, sensor data, work orders, or inspections is preferred.
- Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture beyond a single team is preferred.
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or other evidence of curiosity and drive are preferred.
