Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, define engineering standards, lead architectural discussions, and guide technical direction.
- Architect and build scalable, cloud-native backend services, APIs, event-driven systems, service-oriented architectures, and data pipelines.
- Develop search, retrieval, content-processing, and AI-powered capabilities that operate securely at large scale.
- Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, developer experience, engineering quality, and cost efficiency.
- Design resilient systems with observability, including logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and telemetry.
- Own complex technical initiatives from initial design through deployment and ongoing production operation.
- Mentor engineers, lead code reviews and design discussions, document technical decisions, and collaborate across Product, Design, Platform Services, and engineering teams.
- Research and validate emerging technologies and apply modern development and AI tooling to improve engineering effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade systems at scale.
- 3+ years of providing technical leadership and influencing engineering direction and practices.
- Deep experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-native backend systems, ideally using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, and S3.
- Strong experience with event-driven and service-oriented architectures, asynchronous processing, queueing, idempotency, failure handling, and retries.
- Strong backend development experience in a modern backend language, preferably C#/.NET; Python, Java, or Go experience is also valued.
- Experience building performant, reliable, cost-effective systems at high volume and implementing production observability.
- Working familiarity with modern AI and its application in production software, plus experience with automated testing, CI/CD practices, and operating production services.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with search, retrieval, semantic or vector search, embeddings, retrieval augmented generation, high-throughput pipelines, document or content systems, AI or agent-facing services, B2B SaaS, and regulated or security-sensitive environments.
- Open-source contributions, technical writing, or broader technical knowledge sharing are valued.
