Responsibilities
- Design and implement highly scalable and highly available backend services with monitoring and alerting.
- Ramp quickly into unfamiliar codebases, assess blast radius, de-risk changes, and ship confidently.
- Use AI throughout the development workflow while verifying its output and maintaining ownership of code quality.
- Own the full software lifecycle from product requirements, architecture, and development through quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance.
- Scope ambiguous problems, write design documents, and translate product intent into technical decisions.
- Partner with product managers and stakeholders to challenge specifications and communicate technical realities.
- Mentor teammates, share knowledge, and promote engineering best practices.
- Introduce appropriate technologies and ideas, investigate performance improvements, and improve automation and quality.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience in backend development, including 3–4 years in senior positions.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
- Fluency with AI tools in real development work and the judgment to verify and pressure-test their output.
- Experience developing distributed web applications and designing scalable, highly available systems.
- Ability to write comprehensible, well-structured, and performant code.
- Experience with SQL or NoSQL database modeling.
- Experience using and designing RESTful services.
- Strong curiosity, communication, problem-solving, product judgment, organization, planning, and ability to work with ambiguity.
- Preferred: BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
- Preferred: experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Mongo, Redis, Ruby on Rails, microservices, or machine learning.
