Responsibilities
- Define and evolve technical vision for backend services, platform capabilities, and cloud architecture.
- Lead cross-domain architectural initiatives, modernization efforts, and major technology decisions across multiple teams.
- Establish engineering standards, architectural principles, technical governance, and frameworks for measuring engineering effectiveness.
- Lead AWS platform strategy, including cloud security, resilience, disaster recovery, observability, compliance readiness, and cost optimization.
- Influence Infrastructure-as-Code, deployment automation, platform engineering, release engineering, and operational practices.
- Provide architectural reviews, technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to engineering teams and leadership.
- Improve system reliability, incident response, operational readiness, developer experience, and reusable platform capabilities.
- Collaborate with product, design, data, frontend, infrastructure, and security teams to align technical strategy with business goals.
- Contribute to frontend and full-stack architecture, integration patterns, performance, reliability, and critical hands-on initiatives when needed.
Requirements
- Berlin-based and able to work from Berlin.
- 7+ years of engineering experience.
- Deep expertise designing, building, and operating production systems on AWS at scale.
- Expert-level TypeScript experience in backend and service-oriented environments.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, fault tolerance, API design, asynchronous architectures, and integration patterns.
- Experience with serverless architectures, event-driven systems, cloud-native platforms, SQL and NoSQL data stores, and complex production environments.
- Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience using CDK, Terraform, or an equivalent.
- Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, shared engineering capabilities, CI/CD, release engineering, and operational automation.
- Experience defining cloud architecture standards and governance practices.
- Ability to contribute across the stack, including collaboration with and debugging of modern TypeScript, React, and React Native frontend applications.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with a track record of influencing organization-wide technical initiatives at scale.
- Understanding of cloud security, compliance, resilience, disaster recovery, cost optimization, reliability, performance, and delivery trade-offs.
