Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain features across Rails API services, TypeScript/Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends.
- Own integrations with external lending, mortgage insurance, document, and e-signature platforms, including mapping, synchronization, reconciliation, retries, and idempotency.
- Design and evolve asynchronous multi-step workflows using message queues, background jobs, and saga-style orchestration.
- Maintain secure multi-tenant data isolation and partner boundaries across queries and events.
- Lead technical design through design documents, architecture decision records, trade-off analysis, and cross-team alignment.
- Improve service boundaries, module design, test coverage, technical debt, and developer experience.
- Participate in code review, establish engineering standards, mentor engineers, and lead cross-team technical initiatives.
- Join the on-call rotation, lead incident response, improve observability and CI/CD, and implement root-cause fixes.
- Work with Customer Support, Customer Success, and Product Managers to investigate customer issues, refine requirements, identify edge cases, and propose solutions.
- Build shared AI tooling and lead safe, effective use of agentic coding tools, including reviewing and verifying agent output.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building and running production web applications.
- Deep Ruby on Rails experience, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec.
- Experience shipping polished user interfaces with React and TypeScript, plus GraphQL experience on server and client, ideally with Apollo.
- Experience building distributed, event-driven systems and applying retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency.
- Experience managing complex third-party integrations involving REST, SOAP, webhooks, and partner APIs.
- Strong security instincts for sensitive personal and financial data, including multi-tenant data isolation.
- Advanced daily use of AI and agentic coding tools, with the ability to structure context, verify generated output, and build engineering productivity tooling.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including design documentation, incident explanations, and productive cross-functional disagreement.
- Experience with production ownership, on-call operations, incident response, observability, and blameless postmortems.
- Preferred experience includes mortgage technology or regulated integration-heavy domains, LOS platforms such as Encompass, MortgageBot, or Byte, MISMO standards, Node.js/TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, CI/CD, workflow orchestration, mentoring, and cross-team leadership.
