Base Salary
$180k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead migration from current Node Bazel rules to a maintained successor and complete the JavaScript toolchain migration to Bazel modules.
- Improve incremental compilation, module linking, cache hit rates, test parallelism, and p50/p95 pull request build and test times.
- Own remote cache fleet sizing, eviction behavior, cost, and telemetry for build timing, cache performance, flake rate, and cost.
- Develop test infrastructure across unit, integration, browser end-to-end, and visual testing, including flake detection, quarantine, sharding, coverage, linting, and static analysis gates.
- Replace shared environments with isolated, short-lived environments that can be created per branch or task.
- Build hermetic, sandboxed, reproducible development environments and automated review and presubmit signals for AI agents.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience owning a monorepo build system at scale, with Bazel strongly preferred; Buck2, Pants, Nx, or Turborepo are also considered.
- Experience owning incremental builds, test sharding, self-hosted runner fleets, presubmit and postsubmit workflows, and merge queues.
- Deep experience with production frontend bundler pipelines, shared UI packages, and Jest, Playwright, or Cypress test suites.
- Strong expertise in Node.js module resolution and packaging, including CommonJS and ECMAScript Modules, plus comfort working in a repository that includes Go.
- Understanding of hermeticity, sandboxing, action graphs, cache invalidation, reproducible builds, undeclared inputs, and machine-independent toolchains.
- Proven ownership of flake detection and quarantine, balanced test sharding, merge signals, and measurable improvements in build times, CI spend, or artifact and bundle sizes.
