Base Salary
$175k - $225k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Shopify checkout, thank-you, customer-account, and post-purchase extensions and the server-side code that determines displayed offers.
- Design and rebuild experimentation reporting, including data models, PHP and TypeScript endpoints, and BigQuery and MySQL queries.
- Design and implement secure REST APIs in PHP and TypeScript for extensions, administration, and Shopify integrations.
- Investigate merchant-reported production issues, identify root causes, improve observability, and participate in rotating on-call coverage.
- Use Anthropic Claude Code across development, code review, and testing while applying independent technical judgment.
- Perform unit, end-to-end, and manual QA against real Shopify stores without handing testing off to a separate QA team.
- Review code, influence technical decisions across systems, mentor by example, and identify opportunities to avoid duplicated work.
Requirements
- Staff-level ownership demonstrated through end-to-end technical decisions or migrations spanning multiple systems or teams.
- Daily fluency with AI coding tools and the judgment to evaluate their output.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in unfamiliar TypeScript and PHP codebases.
- At least 8 years building production web applications, including hands-on PHP with CodeIgniter 4 or a comparable MVC framework and TypeScript with React.
- Experience owning a revenue-critical, customer-facing production system, including logs, metrics, escalations, and incident resolution.
- Hands-on BigQuery or another columnar warehouse experience, including analytical queries and cost awareness, plus MySQL schema design and migrations.
- Experience with unit and end-to-end testing and personally performing quality assurance.
- Understanding of secure coding fundamentals for buyer and order data, including the OWASP Top 10.
- Experience with orchestration and platform-wide, componentized systems.
- Educational background in computer science, engineering, or a similar area, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote-first, high-autonomy environment and remain responsive on Slack during working hours.
- Preferred experience with Shopify app development, Checkout Extensibility, post-purchase extensions, Admin or Storefront GraphQL APIs, constrained runtimes such as React Native, and Preact.
