Responsibilities

  • Extend evaluation harnesses and tooling to configure, execute, reproduce, and compare evaluation runs across model, prompt, data, and version changes.
  • Investigate scoring, aggregation, variance, sample-size, and confidence approaches for determining whether AI-agent changes improve results.
  • Research agent-evaluation tools and techniques and prototype approaches worth adopting.
  • Investigate AI-agent security and trustworthiness, including sensitive context handling, policy adherence, unsafe-instruction resistance, tool-error recovery, and auditable evidence.
  • Build observability and investigation tools for trace analysis, failure categorization, regression detection, and reporting.
  • Work with experienced software engineers in a GitHub-native, agentic workflow using AI-assisted development tools.
  • Present findings and project work to the team.

Requirements

  • Completed third year of, or recently graduated from, a program in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Currently enrolled in full-time education or a recent/upcoming graduate within 12 months of the placement end date.
  • Demonstrated interest in software quality, reliability, security, investigation-oriented engineering, AI agents, or AI-agent evaluation through coursework, work terms, projects, research, or open source.
  • Comfortable writing code in Python or a comparable language and using Git and GitHub.
  • Clear written communication, curiosity, skepticism, structured thinking, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Preferred experience includes test automation, CI/CD pipelines, property-based, fuzz, or metamorphic testing.
  • Preferred exposure includes application security, threat modeling, policy testing, red-team evaluation, secure software development, responsible AI risk assessment, LLM applications, RAG, prompt engineering, agentic frameworks, evaluation tooling, logs, traces, audit records, experiment results, data analysis, knowledge graphs, semantic modeling, ontologies, or supply chain systems.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, research, competitions, or hackathons are welcomed.

  • Full-time 8- or 12-month position starting January 2027.
  • Ottawa, Canada office attendance required at least three days per week.
  • Compensation is $27.04-$39.66 hourly, with the final offer reflecting skills, year of education, and experience.
