Responsibilities
- Build and prototype software that helps County departments work faster.
- Write code and test ideas through rapid prototyping.
- Support software modernization projects for the County of San Diego.
- Apply modern AI tools and AWS cloud services to software design, development, and delivery.
- Collaborate with Peraton professionals on real public-sector projects.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- High school diploma and some advanced-level training are required.
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student who has completed progress toward or is pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience programming in Python or Java is required.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming and version control with Git is required.
- Preferred qualifications include .NET/C# experience and exposure to AWS services such as Bedrock, CodeCommit, and Lambda or other cloud platforms.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with generative AI APIs such as Claude or AI coding tools such as Kiro.
- Familiarity with JIRA or ServiceNow is preferred.
- Hackathon, personal, or open-source projects demonstrating rapid prototyping are preferred.
Benefits
- Full-time, 40-hour-per-week co-op from January 2027 through August 2027.
- Hybrid work arrangement based in San Diego, California.
- Hourly base pay of $28–38 per hour.
- Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
