Base Salary

$102k - $219k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, evaluate, and deploy AI-driven detection capabilities using SLMs, agents, multimodal models, and emerging machine-learning technologies.
  • Translate research ideas into production-ready solutions that improve customer protection at Microsoft scale.
  • Define success metrics, design experiments and studies, analyze results, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Analyze model behavior, efficacy, coverage, and operational performance to improve protection and system efficiency.
  • Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to influence technical direction and deliver measurable customer impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of related experience; alternatively, a master's degree plus 1+ year, a doctorate, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred candidates have a bachelor's degree plus 5+ years, a master's degree plus 3+ years, or a doctorate plus 1+ year of related experience.
  • Experience creating publications such as patents or peer-reviewed academic papers is preferred.
  • Applied experience with modern AI systems, including LLMs, SLMs, agents, or multimodal AI, is preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Benefits

  • The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $102,100-$202,200 per year, with a separate USD $133,800-$219,200 annual range for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • The position is open for at least five days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
