Base Salary
$120k - $261k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship Microsoft Store client features on Windows from technical design through release, telemetry review, and follow-up.
- Own the reliability and performance of acquisition, install, and update flows through production troubleshooting, incident response, service health monitoring, and on-call participation.
- Set technical direction through legacy-code modernization, platform and architecture transitions, and maintainable, reliable, performant, and cost-conscious engineering patterns.
- Partner with developers and engineering teams to diagnose app-specific issues across client, service, and operating-system boundaries and drive fixes to the appropriate owners.
- Improve engineering quality through test strategy, code health, regression prevention, automation, instrumentation, security, privacy, and compliance.
- Mentor engineers and contribute through code reviews, design reviews, and technical leadership on ambiguous problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: Windows client development experience, including app packaging, deployment, and the app model stack.
- Preferred: Experience shipping and operating consumer-scale client applications with live-site ownership, on-call, and telemetry-driven quality improvement.
- Preferred: Strong proficiency in C++ or C# in a large, long-lived production codebase.
- Preferred: Experience with app distribution or commerce systems such as catalog, licensing, entitlement, or update services.
- Preferred: Experience debugging complex issues across process, service, and operating-system boundaries using logs, traces, and diagnostic tools.
- Preferred: Experience mentoring engineers or leading a workstream without formal management responsibility.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is $119,800-$234,700 per year; a separate San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range is provided in the posting.
- The role may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
