$350k - $510k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own complex platform features and subsystems end-to-end from design and implementation through bring-up, validation, and production support.
- Design, implement, and maintain core Roku device platform software, including platform APIs, drivers, HALs, low-level services, boot support, diagnostics, and board enablement.
- Implement and optimize video and audio pipelines, codecs, rendering paths, secure boot, DRM integrations, and content protection features.
- Lead evaluation and enablement of SoCs and companion chipsets while partnering with chipset vendors and OEM/ODM organizations.
- Define system budgets and optimize CPU, GPU, NPU, memory, storage, boot time, UI performance, streaming quality, and application responsiveness.
- Develop profiling, tracing, telemetry, logging, diagnostics, recovery, safe-update, validation, test automation, and regression capabilities.
- Anticipate thermal, power, resource, and component-related failure modes and implement software mitigations and observability hooks.
- Collaborate with OS, media, graphics, connectivity, security, cloud, hardware, test, manufacturing, and feature teams to deliver platform capabilities.
- Mentor software engineers and provide technical leadership on system debugging, performance tuning, design reviews, and production readiness.
- Implement system-level AI/ML components and platform APIs or telemetry supporting diagnostics, anomaly detection, recommendations, and test selection.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of industry experience in embedded systems-level software development, with substantial hands-on multimedia product experience.
- Track record of building and shipping AV products such as TVs, set-top boxes, streaming devices, or consoles at scale.
- Strong experience with embedded Linux or Android-based systems and systems programming in C or C++; Rust or similar is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of ARM-based SoCs, multimedia pipelines, memory and storage constraints, performance profiling, tracing, hardware counters, DRM, secure boot, and content protection.
- Experience with NPU, DSP, or AI accelerator blocks on embedded SoCs and with AI-assisted diagnostics, performance optimization, or user-experience flows.
- Experience collaborating with SoC vendors and OEM/ODM partners through design, validation, and mass production.
- Understanding of board-level design, power and thermal considerations, signal integrity, schematics, layouts, and interfaces including I²C, USB, PCIe, and HDMI.
- Ability to lead technically through code and design, influence cross-functional teams, communicate complex trade-offs, and drive platform changes into production.
