Responsibilities
- Own the kiosk payment domain, including authorization, capture, void, refund, reversal, settlement, and reconciliation.
- Re-architect the payment-terminal platform into a modular, pluggable SDK on top of the PayTerminal SPI, including plugin discovery, registration, versioning, compatibility, capability negotiation, dependency isolation, configuration, and secrets management.
- Design a terminal abstraction spanning integrated, semi-integrated, cloud, REST, and cash-device processors.
- Build integration testing, simulation, certification, and regression-testing harnesses for new and external integrations.
- Establish platform-wide patterns for idempotency, transaction recovery, reversal, timeouts, health monitoring, concurrency, and reconciliation.
- Design PCI-DSS scope minimization through tokenization, P2PE, processor-specific TLS/mTLS, and certificate and key handling.
- Implement terminal integrations from byte-level protocols through the high-level PayTerminal API.
- Work with RS-232, USB-serial, USB, REST/SOAP, webhooks, and semi-integrated terminal SDKs, including reconnection, retry, polling, and reconciliation behavior.
- Debug live hardware using protocol traces, terminal logs, packet captures, and vendor certification processes.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, set technical direction, and mentor engineers building integrations.
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience.
- Strong Java experience with multi-module Maven and Spring platforms, object-oriented programming, and distributed-systems design.
- Experience designing extensible plugin or SPI-based architectures using approaches such as ServiceLoader, OSGi, Spring plugin models, or public SDKs.
- Hands-on experience with serial or USB communication and binary protocol implementation, including TLV, BCD, bitmaps, length-prefixed fields, and state machines.
- Direct payment-terminal or POS integration experience with providers such as Verifone, Ingenico, Adyen, Shift4, FreedomPay, SIX, Nepting, SiTef, Redsys, or Worldpay, or comparable providers.
- Strong understanding of card transaction lifecycles, PCI-DSS boundaries, tokenization, and TLS/mTLS in production.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in leading designs, setting standards, and mentoring engineers.
- Experience with EMV, ISO 8583, ZVT, or OPI is preferred.
- Experience with cash automation and recyclers, end-of-day processing, and reconciliation tooling is preferred.
- Regional acquiring experience across LatAm, the EU, or the Middle East and multi-currency payments experience are preferred.
- Experience integrating loyalty, stored-value, gift, wallet, Apple Pay, or Google Pay systems is preferred.
- Vendor certification experience with acquirers and processors, 3-D Secure, SCA, and fraud or risk tooling is preferred.
