Responsibilities
- Deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing backend and frontend systems for Avalara’s global compliance platform.
- Build and maintain scalable APIs and services and maintainable frontend applications for the Brazil Returns engineering team.
- Improve code quality and automated test coverage through engineering best practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Reduce production incidents through observable, well-structured code and proactive monitoring.
- Raise engineering standards across codebases, pipelines, and architecture documentation through rigorous testing, clean code, and comprehensive documentation.
- Apply AI to improve engineering speed, quality, insight, automation, or scale, while addressing governance, security, and responsible-use considerations.
- Share AI and engineering best practices and help improve the capabilities of other team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with .NET and C# for building scalable APIs and services.
- Experience with React and TypeScript for building maintainable frontend applications.
- Experience with distributed systems and RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Experience with AWS cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, and relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Good knowledge of automated testing strategies.
- Demonstrated hands-on use of AI tools to improve software engineering workflows and measurable delivery outcomes, including the ability to quantify impact and explain tool selection and risks.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills for global collaboration.
- Preferred experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, SaaS or enterprise-scale platforms, compliance or financial systems, regulated domains, and geographically distributed teams.
