Senior Software Engineer, Storage Infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain systems that provide efficient access to growing datasets.
  • Extend and improve services for internal data search and image processing.
  • Operate and tune Elasticsearch indexing for core datasets.
  • Own services through performance measurement, alerting, on-call support, incident response, and investigation of performance anomalies.
  • Determine methods and procedures for complex assignments and deliver solutions across variable technical factors.
  • Advise team members, lead project teams, and oversee assignments of lower-level engineers.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and shape the architecture of storage systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and drive alignment on technical decisions.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of software engineering experience.
  • Production backend services and API development experience in Go, Python, or similar modern languages.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Copilot.
  • Experience monitoring and operating highly scalable cloud-native software.
  • Experience with relational datastores such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and non-relational datastores such as BigTable or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience building, releasing, and supporting highly available and consistently performant services.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and provide in-depth technical evaluations for distributed backend services.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote setting.
  • Experience improving codebases, documentation, and team practices beyond feature work.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in selecting methods, adapt complex techniques, and advise team members on complex technical matters.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of Go development experience building production backend services.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of Python development experience building customer-facing APIs.
  • Preferred: experience maintaining infrastructure with Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Preferred: experience building services using cloud infrastructure and tooling such as AWS or GCP.
  • Preferred: experience working with geospatial data.
