Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary Power Apps developer by designing, building, and maintaining canvas and model-driven applications for data entry, workflow routing, and approvals.
- Design workflow-driven screens and forms for multiple user roles in partnership with the Human-Centered Design subject matter expert.
- Architect reliable data flows from Power Apps into SQL Server, including validation, structuring, and clean database integration.
- Build Power Automate workflows connecting Power Apps with SQL Server, SharePoint, and other data sources for notifications, approvals, escalations, and status tracking.
- Collaborate with data engineering, data science, and front-end development teams to support reliable Power BI reporting.
- Implement role-based access and security in Power Apps, Dataverse, and SharePoint while aligning with VA security, FISMA, and Section 508 requirements.
- Maintain and enhance existing Power Apps solutions and respond to new workflow, form, and stakeholder requirements.
- Lead UAT and validation, develop test cases, coordinate defect resolution, and provide quality assurance support.
- Document application architecture, data flows, and workflow logic; maintain version control and change management for releases.
- Support train-the-trainer sessions and identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, data quality, performance, and usability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of application or data systems development experience.
- Deep demonstrated expertise building enterprise-grade canvas and/or model-driven Power Apps solutions.
- Strong experience building workflow-driven interfaces with forms, approval chains, notifications, and status tracking using Power Apps and Power Automate.
- Experience designing Power Apps specifically to support Power BI reporting pipelines, including data modeling, clean input interfaces, refresh performance, and data quality practices.
- Experience architecting Power Apps solutions that write data to SQL Server, with working knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to translate business and program workflows into functional application requirements and intuitive interfaces for non-technical users.
- Familiarity with federal data governance, security requirements, FISMA compliance, and Section 508/WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
- Experience with VA or VHA data and workflow systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with Talent Management System (TMS 2.0), HRSmart, SharePoint Online, and SQL Server-backed workflow data is preferred.
- Experience with Dataverse or Common Data Service, including table/entity design and relationships, is preferred.
- Knowledge of Human-Centered Design, Human-Systems Integration, or User Experience methods is preferred.
- Proficiency with Power FX, Power Automate expressions, and custom JSON formatting for SharePoint list views is preferred.
- A master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is preferred.
