Responsibilities

  • Own core localization areas such as LiDAR-inertial-GNSS state estimation, 3D mapping, map maintenance, or sensor calibration and bring them to production reliability on real hardware.
  • Contribute to sensor integration, performance tuning, regression testing, deployment, and adaptation of the localization and mapping pipeline to new operating environments.
  • Design and build online validation that monitors localization integrity and cross-sensor consistency, detects drift, and integrates with the vehicle safety architecture.
  • Develop diagnostics, health logging, and post-mission analysis tooling across the localization stack.
  • Drive regression, validation, and release-gating approaches for localization changes deployed at active airports.
  • Deploy, test, and iterate on localization systems using data from real autonomous operations.
  • Provide technical leadership by driving architecture across teams and setting direction for difficult estimation problems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in robotics or autonomous vehicles, including ownership of localization or state-estimation systems through production deployment on real hardware.
  • Deep practical experience with multi-sensor fusion and state estimation across LiDAR, IMU, GNSS, and cameras.
  • Strong command of nonlinear optimization tools such as Ceres, GTSAM, or g2o and/or filtering methods such as EKF or UKF.
  • Strong modern C++ experience, including C++17 or newer, and deep working experience with Linux and ROS/ROS2.
  • Understanding of how calibration quality affects localization and perception and how localization errors affect the safety case.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master's or PhD focused on localization, state estimation, or calibration; hands-on multisensor calibration experience; factor-graph, graph-based SLAM, or listed open-source localization-tool experience; runtime monitoring and safety-threshold experience; and experience advancing autonomous systems toward driverless operation.
