$243k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build service mesh infrastructure for communication across hybrid Kubernetes and Nomad environments at massive scale.
- Integrate service mesh capabilities with Kubernetes, including sidecar injection, mutual TLS, traffic policies, and production observability.
- Build networking foundations for Cloud Bursting, including service discovery, traffic management, and locality-aware routing across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Partner with application teams to address connectivity challenges and provide a frictionless platform for developers.
- Collaborate with Gateway and CNI teams to deliver a unified multi-cluster service fabric.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across Envoy sidecars, the Istio control plane, and the underlying network stack.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in testing, deployment, and reliability engineering.
- Participate in on-call rotations and serve as a primary escalation point for complex service mesh issues.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in distributed systems.
- Strong expertise with service mesh technologies such as Istio, Envoy, Consul, or Linkerd.
- Deep knowledge of traffic management, service discovery, mutual TLS, observability, and routing policies.
- Production Kubernetes experience and familiarity with the Kubernetes networking model.
- Experience with Envoy proxy internals, xDS APIs, and control-plane architectures.
- Ability to design large-scale distributed systems spanning multiple clusters, regions, and runtime environments.
- Fluency in Go, C/C++, or Rust.
- Experience with on-call rotations and a reliability-first infrastructure mindset.
