Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction of generalizing the Supply & Demand data model from crude oil to all commodities.
  • Evolve the shared Reader-to-Transformer-to-Writer ETL framework into a reusable foundation for commodity data pipelines.
  • Own publication reliability, anomaly-detection guardrails, release processes, and the data-quality standard for customer-facing balances.
  • Set non-functional standards for reliability, latency, observability, security, and cost across Python, TypeScript APIs, and Airflow orchestration.
  • Shape external and web application data-distribution API contracts, including versioning, pagination, and backward compatibility.
  • Lead design reviews, steward architecture decision records, and align engineers on ambiguous business-critical work.
  • Respond to critical incidents and drive preventative follow-up work.
  • Partner with Product and Research on the technical and feature roadmap.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and serve as a technical consultant across engineering teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer delivering production systems.
  • Experience delivering technically ambiguous, business-critical projects end to end, including design, trade-offs, and production outcomes.
  • Deep experience building and running data-intensive backends in Python, including ETL, orchestration, relational data modeling, SQL, and Postgres.
  • Production ownership experience including on-call, observability, incident response, and preventative follow-up work.
  • Experience setting technical direction for a team and advising engineers on difficult design decisions.
  • Experience with Airflow or comparable orchestration and TypeScript/NestJS APIs is desirable.
  • Exposure to evolving domain data models such as commodities, energy, finance, or logistics is desirable.
  • Familiarity with data-quality or anomaly-detection approaches is desirable.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, GitOps delivery, Terraform, ArgoCD, Kubernetes, and versioned external client APIs is desirable.

Benefits

  • Kpler emphasizes an inclusive and diverse work environment and welcomes candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • The company describes a collaborative, supportive culture focused on decisive action, teamwork, and helping colleagues and clients.
