Responsibilities
- Design and implement search functionality in a PaaS ecommerce backend.
- Build and improve semantic and hybrid retrieval across query understanding, vector indexing, relevance, performance, and query cost.
- Develop scalable, multi-tenant software architectures.
- Analyze user needs and discuss technical approaches.
- Test software components for usability, functionality, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and DevOps.
- Participate in worldwide production-system on-call rotations.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience as a Software Engineer working in search.
- Experience building search solutions with Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch, or similar engines.
- Experience with modern search strategies such as vector search, hybrid search, learning to rank, and re-rankers is preferred.
- Experience developing REST APIs and understanding scalable event-driven architectures, including queues, notification topics, sharding, replication, load balancing, and failover, is preferred.
- Experience with Scala or other functional programming languages is preferred.
- Experience with infrastructure technologies such as Helm, Kubernetes, and Rust is preferred.
- Fluent English communication skills for working in international teams.
- Curiosity about using AI tools to work more effectively and willingness to learn and apply them.
