
Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure

Responsibilities
- Own and develop the platform infrastructure strategy, make architectural calls, and own resulting outcomes.
- Design, build, and operate foundational platform systems across a complex multi-cloud infrastructure estate.
- Make principled build-versus-buy assessments and advocate for appropriate technology choices.
- Define requirements and guide how engineering work is prioritized and executed.
- Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation and architecture decision records.
- Participate in architectural forums and communicate open, principled technical decisions.
- Write production Go code that validates and implements platform strategy.
Requirements
- Deep practical experience designing and operating distributed production systems at scale, including consistency and availability tradeoffs, failure cascades, backpressure, and graceful degradation.
- Operator-level Kubernetes experience, including operating clusters under real production load and understanding scheduler and control-loop behavior.
- Strong proficiency in Go and experience building and shipping production systems with it.
- Production multi-cloud experience making architectural decisions across AWS, GCP, and/or Azure.
- Experience defining requirements and driving technology choices across an engineering organization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including design documentation and postmortems, and effectiveness in globally distributed teams.
- Preferred: system-level experience with storage primitives and tradeoffs among relational stores, object stores, and other options.
- Preferred: experience with SaaS/PaaS products spanning multiple cloud providers.
- Preferred: familiarity with Apache Airflow or workflow orchestration systems.
