Base Salary
$160k - $235k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own caching and locking services with measurable impact on cost, latency, and reliability at multi-million-QPS scale.
- Build and scale Boulder, including compaction, sharding, domain isolation, and real-time update support.
- Re-platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend with sharding.
- Contribute to standardized smart caching clients with failover, retry, and observability defaults.
- Diagnose production issues involving cache invalidation storms, replication lag, hot shards, and noisy-neighbor contention, then create durable guardrails.
- Build self-serve tooling and a recommendation engine that select appropriate caching backends based on workload characteristics.
- Collaborate with teams building on top of caching, including Taulu, ML Platform, and product engineering teams across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo.
- Use AI coding tools across the software development lifecycle, including design, code generation, testing, monitoring, and release.
Requirements
- 6+ years of full-time experience designing, building, and operating distributed stateful systems in production.
- At least 2 years of experience with caching or key-value storage at meaningful scale.
- Proficiency in Go, or Java/Kotlin with deep expertise in concurrency, distributed systems, and production-grade backend services.
- Hands-on experience with distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Valkey, or Memcached and their failure modes.
- Understanding of consistency models, sharding, partitioning, replication, consensus, and related trade-offs.
- Experience operating systems requiring capacity planning and cost discipline at scale.
- A proven track record of shipping reliable infrastructure end to end with broad ownership.
- Proficiency using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Preferred: production experience with ElastiCache, Memcached, or Valkey.
- Preferred: experience with KVRocks or RocksDB-family storage engines, including TiKV or similar systems, compaction tuning, and back-pressure handling.
- Preferred: experience building or operating a distributed lock service.
- Preferred: experience with Kubernetes and general cloud infrastructure operations.
- Preferred: contributions to open-source caching, storage, or distributed systems projects.
