Base Salary
$285k - $450k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical vision for indexing and retrieval infrastructure across Core, Ads, and Shopping.
- Lead cross-organizational modernization of Pinterest’s indexing architecture, including unified real-time and incremental retrieval systems.
- Partner with engineering, product, ML, and infrastructure leaders to align priorities and deliver shared platform capabilities.
- Guide system design, architecture reviews, and execution across document ingestion, indexing, retrieval, and quality evaluation.
- Build shared metrics, tuning surfaces, and debugging workflows to improve relevance, safety, engagement, revenue, and infrastructure cost tradeoffs.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while fostering strong engineering judgment, inclusive collaboration, and operational excellence.
- Use AI to accelerate analysis, prototyping, design exploration, documentation, and synthesis while verifying correctness, reliability, and quality.
Requirements
- Deep expertise building and evolving large-scale indexing, search, recommendation, or ads retrieval systems, including real-time and incremental architectures.
- Strong technical leadership experience across multiple teams or organizations, including influencing direction and driving complex platform decisions to completion.
- Experience leading large modernization efforts such as architectural convergence, legacy migrations, shared platform rollouts, or new infrastructure capabilities at scale.
- Exceptional systems thinking and problem-solving skills connecting platform design to product quality, ML needs, operational health, and business outcomes.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical topics to senior technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience using AI to improve engineering workflows, with the ability to validate AI-assisted work through testing, source-checking, peer review, and engineering judgment.
- High integrity, ownership, and care when handling sensitive data and production-critical systems, with attention to privacy, safety, and correctness.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
