Responsibilities
- Build production workflows combining physics-informed models, LLMs, VLMs, world models, scientific code, data services, and deterministic rules.
- Design durable execution across state, planning, model routing, retrieval, memory, tool use, retries, timeouts, checkpoints, human approval, and recovery.
- Create evidence-backed outputs that distinguish source data, model inference, system synthesis, user input, and unresolved uncertainty.
- Partner with product and design to build review, correction, comparison, approval, reporting, and recovery workflows.
- Build permission-aware context, retrieval, memory, and indexing systems with freshness, versioning, retention, and evidence lineage.
- Evaluate system behavior across task success, groundedness, scientific validity, safety, latency, cost, and human intervention.
Requirements
- Production experience building AI applications, agent systems, workflow engines, backend services, or complex software products.
- Strong hands-on engineering skills with APIs, stateful services, databases, asynchronous execution, testing, debugging, and production operations.
- Practical experience with LLMs or multimodal systems, retrieval, memory, tool use, model routing, structured generation, and common failure modes.
- Product judgment and the ability to connect technical design decisions to improved user decisions or workflows.
- Experience building systems with security, permissions, data isolation, auditability, or human-approval requirements.
- Preferred: experience with scientific, geospatial, industrial, defense, autonomy, or other high-consequence intelligence systems.
- Preferred: experience with multimodal applications involving imagery, maps, time series, documents, structured data, or sensor streams.
- Preferred: experience with agent evaluation, constrained generation, program synthesis, durable workflow systems, or mixed cloud and edge architectures.
- Preferred: experience working closely with product and design teams to ship customer-facing capabilities.
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations for ITAR compliance.

About Matter Intelligence
Matter specializes in advancing sensors and geospatial AI that capture "extreme-resolution" images of natural and artificial materials from space to surface, creating never-seen data of all matter globally. Our sensors simultaneously measure shape, composition, and temperature to understand and predict real-world events like never before. Matter's data accelerates computer vision and contextual geospatial modeling to unlock the next generation of intelligence.
