Responsibilities
- Build high-throughput document extraction pipelines with asynchronous and parallel processing, batching, retries, backpressure, and idempotent reprocessing.
- Develop integrations with LLM APIs, including timeouts, token and cost controls, response validation, and automatic failover across providers.
- Implement resilient service behavior using circuit breakers, fallback chains, and graceful degradation.
- Investigate production extraction failures, latency spikes, and cost regressions using dashboards and metrics, then resolve root causes.
- Review pull requests, create design documents, break features into tasks, and unblock junior engineers.
- Own backend service architecture and make decisions that improve accuracy, latency, cost, and production reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of hands-on Java development experience, including at least 2 years owning a production service.
- Deep knowledge of Core Java, multithreading, and concurrent architecture design.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring Data, microservices, and REST architecture.
- Strong knowledge of NoSQL databases, preferably MongoDB, plus familiarity with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one of AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and data-structures skills, with the ability to evaluate cost, latency, and accuracy tradeoffs.
- Experience informally mentoring or guiding junior engineers and working independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written communication for asynchronous collaboration across time zones.
- Preferred: exposure to LLM or generative AI application development, including prompt iteration, evaluation, or accuracy measurement.
- Preferred: working knowledge of Python; experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ; background in Document AI, OCR, mortgage, or fintech; and familiarity with Grafana, Metabase, or ELK.
