Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain API Gateway platform components for inbound and outbound traffic.
- Develop NGINX-based gateway configurations and custom modules for API gateway and front-end hosting use cases.
- Build automation tooling for resource management, configuration deployment, and release train orchestration.
- Implement reliability and resilience patterns, including circuit breakers, canary deployments, and DDoS mitigation across multiple data centers.
- Collaborate with platform engineers, SREs, security teams, and product teams to onboard domains, troubleshoot issues, and define gateway standards.
- Handle P1/P2 incidents, emergency production changes, and postmortem analysis.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, configuration validation, and safe deployment across development, testing, acceptance, and production environments.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience building and operating distributed systems or platform/infrastructure products.
- Proficiency in Java.
- Experience with Go, Python, C, or Bash is a plus.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of NGINX configuration, modules, and reverse-proxy patterns, or comparable technologies such as Envoy, HAProxy, or Kong.
- Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/mTLS, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and DMZ architectures.
- Strong debugging and incident-response skills, including working under pressure during P1/P2 incidents.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional, globally distributed team.
- Preferred experience operating API gateways at scale in enterprise or financial-services environments.
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, or SAML.
- Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, SRE practices, SLOs, error budgets, and on-call operations.
- Experience with high availability and disaster recovery across multiple data centers.
