Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, development, integration, verification, deployment, and operational support of flight software.
  • Provide technical leadership across the full software lifecycle and represent the software team at major milestones and program reviews.
  • Define software architectures, interfaces, and design approaches with hardware engineers and subsystem teams.
  • Lead software performance analysis, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, fault analysis, and risk mitigation for integrated hardware/software systems.
  • Guide hardware-in-the-loop testing and debug embedded systems in laboratory and test environments using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and signal measurement tools.
  • Implement and validate serial and packet-based communication protocols.
  • Establish software development practices and use Git-based platforms.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead Agile development-cycle planning, integration, and verification activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Technology, or Math from an accredited school.
  • Ten years of related software development experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in object-oriented programming, such as C and C++.
  • Extensive experience with firmware, embedded software, and hardware/software integration.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting complex embedded systems in laboratory environments using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Experience implementing RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, TCP/IP, and UDP/IP communication protocols.
  • Experience establishing software development practices and using Git-based platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.
  • Experience leading technical efforts across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Preferred experience supporting human spaceflight or exploration programs, designing embedded software frameworks, developing device drivers, and using SpaceWire or similar space communication protocols.
  • Preferred experience with software diagnostics and logging architectures, unit-testing frameworks such as xUnit, Windows, POSIX-based operating systems, Docker, Agile/Scrum, and CMMI frameworks.
  • A master’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent advanced technical experience is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation; eligibility for access to classified information may be required.
  • Must be able to work in team environments, meet schedule and attendance requirements, occasionally adjust work hours, travel or commute to other installations, and perform the stated physical and facility-access duties.
