Responsibilities
- Define and deliver end-to-end automation architectures targeting automation of 80% of recurring IP changes by December 2027.
- Lead large-scale migration of NBN and fibre business services from legacy networks onto the IPM pipeline.
- Design multi-vendor abstraction layers across Cisco, Ciena, and Fortinet environments.
- Establish NetBox as the authoritative source of truth for network design and inventory.
- Translate Optus Business products into structured service models and executable automation workflows.
- Act as design authority for Fixed Enterprise Networks automation using YANG, OpenAPI, and JSON Schema.
- Introduce zero-touch provisioning and intent-based modelling systems such as Cisco NSO.
- Mentor and upskill network engineers in software-driven network operations.
- Ensure alignment with Optus governance, TM Forum Open API standards, and IETF network-modelling practices.
- Validate solutions against availability, scalability, security, observability, and operational runbook requirements.
- Coordinate with Sales, Product, Architecture, and Technology teams to accelerate delivery.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building, scaling, and automating tier-1 carrier networks.
- Proven experience architecting and executing large-scale network migrations, including migrations of 100,000+ IP-Line links.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Cisco NSO, zero-touch provisioning, and modern automation pipelines replacing legacy OSS stacks.
- Deep product architecture experience with Carrier IP-Line, IP-VPN, MEF E-Line/E-LAN, SD-WAN, and SIP Voice.
- Practical experience establishing and enforcing NetBox or equivalent authoritative source-of-truth systems.
- Multi-vendor network engineering experience with Cisco routing cores, Ciena equipment, and Fortinet SD-WAN.
- Working knowledge of container-based delivery and modern software engineering practices including GitOps and CI/CD.
- Experience building, motivating, and retaining high-performing engineering teams within capital constraints.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
