Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Conduct research and advanced development for next-generation image and video coding using ML/AI methods.
- Design and implement video processing, encoding, decoding, enhancement, analysis, compression, and streaming algorithms for live and on-demand media.
- Develop software workflows and optimize media platforms for velocity, scale, efficiency, and quality.
- Generate intellectual property and drive architectural innovation internally and through media standards.
- Represent Disney in technical discussions with AOM, MPEG, IETF, VQEG, academic research groups, conferences, and standards bodies.
- Serve as a technical domain expert, influence long-term strategy, and collaborate with senior leaders and global engineering teams.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in a related field.
- Deep expertise in video coding standards including AV1, AV2, AVC, HEVC, and VVC.
- Strong algorithm background in traditional block-based and neural-network-based video coding tools.
- Strong experience applying deep learning to video enhancement, understanding, coding, and analysis.
- Proven track record of intellectual property generation and research or advanced development in video coding, media processing, video quality, computer vision, or computer graphics.
- In-depth understanding of multimedia stacks, video formats, encoders and decoders, video playback, multimedia frameworks, and video coding and processing methods.
- Required degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- Preferred experience with C/C++, Python, AI/ML model and framework deployment and optimization, latent-variable generative models, finite-precision optimization, media metadata, ABR algorithms, transport formats, gStreamer, web applications, dashboards, Docker, web services, REST APIs, XML/JSON, Git/GitHub, release management tools, and highly scalable distributed applications.

- Full-time employment with a hiring range of $175,500-$276,700 per year depending on location.

- The position is based in San Francisco, California or Morrisville, North Carolina, with collaboration across global teams in Zurich, Bangalore, the United States, and Beijing.
