Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve the internal cloud-based database platform.
- Lead platform initiatives end-to-end with predictable delivery and measurable outcomes.
- Define automation strategies for migrations, upgrades, provisioning, backups, and failure recovery.
- Embed encryption, authentication, RBAC, network controls, security, and compliance into Yugabyte platform components.
- Own the availability, reliability, and security of production systems.
- Collaborate with product teams, SREs, and DBAs to apply platform guardrails.
- Lead minor and major incident resolution, post-incident reviews, and escalation support.
- Mentor and coach engineers, support onboarding, and reduce single points of failure.
- Participate in on-call rotations, interviewing, hiring, cross-tribe engineering efforts, and technical guilds.
Requirements
- Significant platform engineering experience with senior ownership of production platform systems at scale.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
- Strong Python development skills or similar experience.
- Solid software engineering principles, including secure, testable, and maintainable code.
- Proficiency with Cloud APIs and DevOps tooling including Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD, and Teleport.
- Experience leading or significantly contributing to incident response and post-incident improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs, business impact, and customer value.
- Highly sought: distributed database experience at scale, preferably YugabyteDB or alternatives such as CockroachDB, TiDB, or Cloud Spanner.
- Highly sought: operational expertise with distributed SQL systems, migration patterns, Database-as-a-Service platforms, internal developer tooling, and technical or product roadmap influence.
