Staff Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Base Salary
$190k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across five Core product teams.
- Float across teams to support high-priority projects and unblock engineers.
- Design and support backend systems primarily in Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks before they escalate.
- Ensure strong observability across Core systems with monitoring and alerting.
- Influence long-term technical strategy balancing delivery with platform health.
- Create clarity around technical decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Set high standards for code quality, security, and documentation.
- Mentor senior backend engineers and help frontend engineers improve Ruby on Rails skills.
- Act as a force multiplier, enabling teams without overshadowing others.
Requirements
- 15+ years of professional experience building and leading software systems.
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on proficiency in Ruby on Rails.
- Strong object-oriented programming fundamentals and backend system design.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and REST APIs in high-traffic environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted infrastructure, including AWS.
- Strong independent judgment and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.
- Willingness to share context freely and build trust within teams.
- Must reside permanently in the U.S.
