Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end technical vision for the Integration team and its supporting services.
- Translate ambiguous product and business goals into technical strategy, architecture, and execution plans.
- Contribute production backend code and set standards for design quality, code quality, and operational rigor.
- Lead architectural decisions for scalable backend systems balancing velocity, reliability, maintainability, extensibility, and operability.
- Drive execution across concurrent projects by identifying risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and sequencing needs.
- Partner with Product, Engineering leadership, Design, Security, and adjacent teams on cross-functional initiatives.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Raise the technical bar through architecture reviews, code reviews, technical writing, and engineering judgment.
- Mentor and develop engineers through feedback, coaching, and technical frameworks.
- Support hiring by attracting, interviewing, and calibrating engineering talent.
- Initially split time approximately 50/50 between hands-on coding and architectural design, with increasing design and team-unblocking responsibilities as the team grows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience building backend services with Go, Rust, Python, Java, TypeScript, or a similar modern language.
- Experience with SQL and at least one relational database in production.
- Experience building backend services on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerized applications.
- Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed or service-oriented systems, and scalable product engineering.
- Strong technical leadership as a senior individual contributor or technical lead, leading through influence rather than formal management authority.
- Experience translating business or customer needs into pragmatic technical decisions and managing multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Experience partnering with Product, Design, Security, peer engineering teams, and senior leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
- History of mentoring engineers and improving engineering craft through design feedback, code reviews, and technical guidance.
- Preferred experience with API platforms, headless customer experiences, agent-based customer flows, or integrations platforms.
- Preferred experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning, Neo4j or other graph databases, GraphQL backends, ETL pipelines, and observability stacks such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Experience in cybersecurity, vulnerability management, security analytics, security data platforms, risk scoring, or data-intensive backend workflows is advantageous.
