Responsibilities

  • Write, review, and own production-quality backend code as a significant day-to-day individual contributor.
  • Drive code quality through TDD, clean architecture principles, and rigorous code reviews.
  • Set engineering standards for CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and release practices.
  • Collaborate with solution and enterprise architects on backend architecture, API design, event-driven patterns, and cloud-native deployment strategies.
  • Create technical designs, solution design documents, API specifications, and integration workflow diagrams.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of engineers while serving as the team’s primary technical escalation point.
  • Run sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming, and coordinate deliverables with product, delivery, QA, infrastructure, security, and operations stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain observability dashboards, alerting, and runbooks, and lead incident response, root cause analysis, and preventive improvements.
  • Champion infrastructure-as-code, automated deployments, and shift-left testing practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrable hands-on coding in recent roles.
  • Proven experience leading small engineering teams of 2–8 people from design through production.
  • Strong backend engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot, and modern cloud-native patterns.
  • Practical experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems including Apache Kafka, SQS/SNS, and RabbitMQ.
  • Expertise with AWS, including ECS/EKS, RDS for PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, and network configuration.
  • Experience with API design and security using OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth 2.0, and JWT.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Splunk and Grafana or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to produce design documents and communicate confidently with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive industries such as iGaming, fintech, or media is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with WSO2 API Manager or similar API gateway or IAM platforms is a nice-to-have.
  • Familiarity with PAM or iGaming platform concepts is a nice-to-have.
  • Experience with Terraform and Helm is a nice-to-have.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure, or Confluent Kafka certification is a nice-to-have.
