Software Engineer, Localization
Mach IndustriesBase Salary
$125k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Prototype and productionize vision-navigation and targeting features from simulation through hardware-in-the-loop and flight using production C++.
- Develop measurement models from EO, IR, RF, and radar detections and make estimators decision-aware without corrupting state.
- Stabilize GNSS-to-VIO handover using adaptive covariances, gating, hysteresis, and reset-less alignment.
- Build and optimize real-time Linux and embedded software, including CPU/GPU profiling and vectorization, with optional CUDA/TensorRT deployment on Jetson hardware.
- Own calibration and time synchronization across IMUs, cameras, radar, LiDAR, and GNSS, and validate results in flight.
- Create evaluation pipelines and dashboards for drift, handover stability, relocalization, and track quality.
- Implement fault detection and graceful degradation for blur, low light, vibration, and RF denial.
- Integrate maps, magnetics, and radar for long-term consistency and robust loop closure.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience with a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, robotics, electrical or aerospace engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong modern C++ development on Linux, Python for tooling and analysis, and disciplined debugging, profiling, and testing practices.
- Expertise in error-state EKF/UKF, factor graphs, nonlinear least-squares, observability, and covariance tuning, including Ceres or GTSAM.
- Experience with VIO/SLAM, camera models, optical flow, feature tracking, and deep learning for detection, segmentation, or pose estimation using PyTorch.
- Experience integrating IMUs, GNSS/RTK, cameras, LiDAR, radar, magnetometers, and barometers.
- Proven ability to deliver research into production and conduct field testing on real platforms.
- Preferred experience with CUDA, TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, NVIDIA Jetson, ROS 2, PX4, ArduPilot, SQL, Parquet, Rust, and Docker.
- Experience with contested or denied RF, low-light or night conditions, and high-vibration environments is preferred.
- Candidates may need authorization to receive technology controlled under U.S. export-control laws without sponsorship for an export license.
Benefits
- Health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities are offered.
- The role may require U.S. export-control authorization without sponsorship for an export license.
