Responsibilities
- Own backend features and improvements from requirements clarification through delivery and production follow-up.
- Design, implement, test, and ship maintainable, secure, observable, and performant backend code.
- Design and maintain APIs, background jobs, integrations, bounded services, data models, migrations, indexes, and query behavior.
- Add and improve unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end automated test coverage.
- Review code for correctness, maintainability, security, performance, and operational risk.
- Investigate build, test, deployment, and runtime failures, identify technical debt, and participate in on-call or operational support when required.
- Use AI coding tools productively, validate generated output, and correct it when necessary.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, Security, product managers, and designers in a remote asynchronous environment.
Requirements
- Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications.
- Strong programming, API, database, testing, debugging, and performance fundamentals.
- Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or another modern backend language, with willingness to learn and adapt.
- Ability to independently own features from clarification through delivery and follow-up while seeking input appropriately.
- Sound judgment regarding security, reliability, performance, maintainability, operational risk, modular boundaries, and coupling.
- Strong written communication and effective remote collaboration skills.
- Practical experience with AI coding tools, including reviewing and correcting generated code.
- Helpful experience includes production Go services, APIs, concurrency, profiling, gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, cloud deployment, Rust, PostgreSQL, schema evolution, caching, queues, messaging, event-driven workflows, observability, modular monoliths, bounded contexts, shared components, or independently operated services.
