Responsibilities
- Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering stakeholders to translate strategic goals into scalable platform capabilities.
- Design, build, and provide hands-on architectural leadership for core data platform components.
- Define and evolve the technical roadmap for Depop’s data platform and analytics infrastructure.
- Establish engineering standards for system design, maintainability, performance, reliability, and privacy.
- Lead data observability, governance, and privacy-by-design initiatives across the organization.
- Mentor and coach engineers while identifying and resolving complex technical challenges and bottlenecks.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Staff Engineer or equivalent senior technical leader in data infrastructure or platform engineering at scale.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and modern data ecosystems, including Databricks, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Beam, and DBT.
- Demonstrated success designing, building, and operating data platforms supporting batch processing and real-time streaming.
- Expertise in data warehousing, advanced ETL/ELT processes, and analytics engineering best practices.
- Exceptional programming ability in Python, Scala, or Java and deep expertise with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Extensive experience with privacy-sensitive datasets and data observability and governance frameworks.
- Strong hands-on architecture and development experience with complex data systems.
- Strategic and pragmatic approach with the ability to define long-term technical direction and execute quickly.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-influence skills.
- Experience with machine learning infrastructure or MLOps, event-driven architectures, mobile-first products, fashion, marketplaces, or sustainability-focused technology is a bonus.
