Responsibilities
- Design and implement motion-planning algorithms that generate safe and efficient vehicle trajectories under diverse driving conditions.
- Optimize planned trajectories for safety, comfort, and efficiency while balancing competing constraints in real time.
- Validate motion-planning behavior in simulation and real-world test data, identifying and resolving edge cases.
- Collaborate with perception and software-integration teams to ensure reliable integration into the overall driving stack.
- Ensure motion-planning algorithms meet defined performance benchmarks and safety requirements for autonomous operation.
Requirements
- Completed degree in computer science, robotics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a comparable field, or equivalent vocational training/apprenticeship in a relevant technical discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in motion planning, robotics, or autonomous-vehicle software.
- Proven experience developing motion-planning or trajectory-generation algorithms for robotics or autonomous vehicles.
- Solid background in optimization techniques such as model predictive control and sampling-based planners.
- Strong C++ and/or Python skills, with experience using motion-planning frameworks or libraries such as OMPL and MoveIt.
- Experience with optimization solvers such as CasADi, OSQP, or IPOPT for trajectory optimization or model predictive control.
- Experience with ROS or ROS2, simulation environments such as CARLA or Gazebo, control theory, state estimation, Kalman filters, linear algebra, and numerical optimization.
- Experience validating algorithms through simulation and real-world test data, including edge-case analysis.
- Comfort working with Git, CI-CD, and real-time or embedded-system constraints.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with perception and software-integration teams and understanding functional-safety requirements for autonomous systems.
- Analytical and structured problem-solving approach, safety-conscious mindset, and ability to communicate algorithmic trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- English proficiency at C1 level is required; German is a plus.
