Base Salary
$164k - $205k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and improve systems powering customer lifetime value modeling across development, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Partner with data scientists to productionize statistical models, simulations, and forecasting workflows.
- Build scalable infrastructure, reliable workflows, reusable tooling, and operational patterns that accelerate research-to-production delivery.
- Develop tools and services for evaluating model performance, understanding business impact, and trusting production model outputs.
- Improve the machine learning development experience and operational maturity of Root’s ML ecosystem.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to improve ML system reliability and scalability.
- Share technical best practices through mentorship, documentation, and clear communication of tradeoffs and operational considerations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning systems and model pipelines with data scientists.
- Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to build maintainable, production-quality ML systems.
- Experience operating production ML systems, including deployment, monitoring, debugging, and workflow orchestration.
- Ability to design reproducible ML workflows with lineage, versioning, and operational visibility.
- Experience with cloud-based ML infrastructure and data platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
- Clear communication skills for explaining technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred: MS or PhD in a quantitative field; experience with customer lifetime value forecasting, simulation workflows, Forecast vs. Actual analysis, insurance or regulated financial products, ML and data tooling, or shared ML infrastructure and developer tooling.
