Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities
- Lead complex backend development in TypeScript and NestJS.
- Build and operate event-driven systems using Kafka, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
- Develop AI pipelines and integrate LLMs into customer-facing production workflows.
- Work across the stack, including frontend development when needed.
- Make architectural and product decisions from prototype through beta and production.
- Conduct code reviews and mentor mid-level engineers.
- Translate business goals into shipped products with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in the TypeScript ecosystem and modern tooling.
- Ability to write clean, modular, scalable, testable, and maintainable code.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to identify the underlying customer problem.
- Ability to distinguish throwaway prototypes from production-grade systems and make appropriate architecture decisions.
- Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or a custom setup on non-trivial problems.
- High autonomy and comfort working in a startup with evolving requirements.
- Prior Staff-level or equivalent software-company experience is preferred.
- Experience leading a new product from zero to launch is preferred.
- Strong product instincts and examples of adapting or abandoning work based on customer feedback are preferred.
- Experience with multi-tenant systems and their architectural constraints is preferred.
