Responsibilities
- Manage and optimise day-to-day operations across Xero’s SQL Server and SQL Server RDS database fleet.
- Plan and execute end-to-end database migrations from SQL Server to Aurora PostgreSQL RDS.
- Integrate AI tools into engineering workflows for query analysis, risk identification, and proactive maintenance.
- Advise product development teams on schema design, query tuning, database observability, and sustainable database infrastructure.
- Identify database risks early and implement reliable, scalable solutions.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in SQL Server and SQL Server RDS, particularly query analysis and performance tuning.
- Practical experience with or familiarity with Aurora PostgreSQL RDS.
- Ability to take technical ownership and develop sustainable solutions.
- Clear communication skills for explaining database complexities and collaborating across disciplines.
- Curiosity and openness to using AI tools to improve engineering productivity.
