Responsibilities
- Implement and deploy a self-hosted Renovate environment, including containers, workers, and job orchestration.
- Automate repository discovery and onboarding across tens of thousands of GitLab repositories using the GitLab API.
- Develop and maintain centralized, version-controlled Renovate configuration presets with repository-level customization.
- Set up and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and reporting dashboards for repository coverage, update throughput, and error rates.
- Optimize performance through parallelization, caching, rate-limit management, and robust error handling.
- Integrate artifact and container registries with secure credential and secrets-management solutions.
- Automate operational processes to support stable and reliable daily operations.
- Prepare operational documentation and runbooks and provide technical support to development teams.
- Support the phased rollout from pilot implementation through full-scale adoption.
Requirements
- Solid professional experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, Automation Engineer, or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of GitLab CI/CD and practical experience with the GitLab API.
- Hands-on experience with containers, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code such as OpenTofu and Helm.
- Good scripting or programming skills in Bash, Python, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.
- Experience with monitoring and observability solutions, preferably New Relic.
- Knowledge of secrets-management solutions such as Vault.
- Experience working with package and container registries.
- Practical experience with Renovate and automated dependency management.
- A strong automation mindset focused on scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Ability to work independently in a structured and solution-oriented manner.
- Good English communication skills.
- Experience operating Renovate at large scale across thousands or tens of thousands of repositories is advantageous.
- Experience designing scalable GitLab-based platform solutions is advantageous.
- Experience with GitLab Runner, distributed workers, job scheduling, or similar orchestration solutions is advantageous.
- Knowledge of dependency management and software supply-chain security is advantageous.
- Experience with CVE-driven security updates and automated vulnerability remediation is advantageous.
- Experience with additional secrets-management, artifact-management, or container-registry technologies is advantageous.
- Experience designing observability dashboards and operational KPIs for platform environments is advantageous.
- Experience in large enterprise or multinational environments is advantageous.
