Responsibilities
- Own major technical initiatives and critical components across NuData’s distributed database platforms.
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate production-quality distributed database capabilities.
- Solve complex problems involving storage, transactions, replication, consensus, geo-distribution, concurrency, scalability, availability, reliability, and latency.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, technical tradeoffs, design documents, code reviews, and production support.
- Diagnose difficult production issues across software, storage, networking, and distributed-system boundaries and drive long-term resolution.
- Mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and promote strong practices in architecture, code quality, testing, observability, automation, and operational readiness.
- Partner with architects, engineers, product managers, engineering leaders, customers, and globally distributed teams in Bengaluru, the U.S., China, and Ireland.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and open-source solutions and use AI-assisted engineering tools where they improve engineering velocity and quality.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 10+ years of experience, or a PhD with equivalent experience building large-scale distributed systems.
- Significant hands-on experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed databases, storage systems, or data infrastructure.
- Strong expertise in distributed systems and database architecture, including consensus, replication, consistency models, partitioning, fault tolerance, high availability, and geo-distribution.
- Strong understanding of database internals, transaction management, concurrency control, crash recovery, replication, and failover strategies.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, operating systems, and software architecture.
- Advanced programming experience in C++, Java, Python, Scala, or equivalent languages.
- Extensive experience with object-oriented design, distributed programming, and relational and/or NoSQL database systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated technical leadership of complex initiatives, architectural decision-making, cross-team collaboration, and engineering mentorship.
- Ability to create high-quality architecture and design documents, communicate tradeoffs, and build consensus across globally distributed teams.
- Experience building production-grade software with AI coding agents and tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
- Ability to provide AI coding agents with appropriate context, specifications, constraints, validation criteria, and operational knowledge.
