Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Act as the technical expert for the Veza Access Graph and translate broad technical, functional, and business challenges into executable initiatives.
- Design and implement scalable distributed backend systems, graph data models, APIs, and high-stakes infrastructure with correctness and rollback safety.
- Set coding standards, engineering best practices, technical direction, and roadmap priorities for workstreams in the engineer’s area.
- Drive architecture, implementation, design reviews, planning, delegation, dependency management, and delivery across multiple teams.
- Identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce redundancy, and improve platform scalability and performance.
- Mentor team leads and individual contributors, help define interview loops, and develop coaching plans.
- Represent team roadmaps and dependencies in company-wide initiatives and secure stakeholder alignment.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools for design exploration, code review, debugging, and documentation while verifying generated output.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional backend software development experience focused on scalable distributed systems, data management, identity, security, or related domains.
- Strong knowledge of distributed-systems fundamentals including consistency models, partitioning, sharding, replication, consensus, and failure modes at scale.
- Experience with graph database internals, including traversal algorithms, query planning and optimization, and indexing strategies.
- Production-level Go experience building and testing backend services, including concurrency, memory, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing large-scale graph schemas with high cardinality and fan-out.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs in microservice architectures.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with caching mechanisms in distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to make technical decisions with organization-wide impact and establish standards adopted by multiple teams.
- Experience designing systems for correctness and rollback safety in high-stakes infrastructure.
- Fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or similar tools, with rigorous verification of generated output.
- Preferred experience building or deeply modifying storage or query engines, including Neo4j internals or a comparable engine.
- Preferred knowledge of relational algebra, graph algorithms, OLTP, and OLAP systems.
- Preferred identity and access management knowledge, including RBAC, ABAC, permission graphs, and entitlement modeling.
- Security or compliance-adjacent engineering experience and a graduate degree are preferred.

- Base pay is $176,100-$308,200, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
