Responsibilities

  • Own architecture and design decisions for the hardest systems in Gradion’s portfolio.
  • Write code, prototype ideas, and debug complex production failures alongside engineering teams.
  • Review high-risk implementations and improve engineering standards through hands-on work.
  • Identify valuable AI applications, build them properly, and make successful approaches reusable across teams.
  • Collaborate with Tech Leads on scalability, performance, reliability, and technical debt.
  • Evaluate technologies, build prototypes, make technical decisions, and document the reasoning.
  • Work with clients and non-engineering stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into technical direction.
  • Mentor senior engineers and influence technical decisions without formal authority.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience building and running production software while remaining hands-on with code.
  • Deep system design and architecture experience covering scalability, performance, distributed systems, and reliability.
  • Track record of setting technical direction across multiple teams or a large, long-running program.
  • Deep expertise in at least one programming language and comfort working across multiple technology stacks.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-based systems using AI APIs, prompt and context design, and at least one of agents, RAG, or evaluation.
  • Strong judgment regarding when to build, pay down technical debt, or decline an approach.
  • Comfort working directly with clients and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Preferred qualifications include production AI systems at scale, evaluation harnesses, guardrails, cost and latency optimization, domain expertise in data platforms, cybersecurity, robotics, or enterprise systems, internal tooling or platform experience, open-source contributions, conference talks, or technical writing.
