Responsibilities

  • Guide teams in making, testing, and documenting architectural decisions through ADRs and the weekly architecture advisory forum.
  • Connect and maintain architectural decisions across repositories and identify cross-cutting concerns including contracts, versioning, identity, permissions, tenancy, observability, and migration sequencing.
  • Embed with teams to write production code, build reference implementations, prototype and research architectural directions, and resolve difficult performance, data-integrity, and cross-service problems.
  • Partner with engineering leadership, product, delivery teams, customers, and integration partners on sequencing, deployment architecture, security, integration design, performance, scale, hardware, and regional constraints.
  • Improve design reviews and help engineers develop stronger architectural judgment and technical writing.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience building and operating production software, including senior, staff, or principal-level responsibility.
  • Five or six years of professional experience and a record of owning work from design through shipped and operated production code.
  • Depth in multiple layers of the stack, including backend services, data modeling and persistence, web or mobile architecture, cloud infrastructure, and delivery pipelines.
  • Experience with event-driven or event-sourced designs, domain modeling, distributed data, replication, consistency, event ordering, versioning, and multi-region systems.
  • Experience evolving versioned APIs, SDKs, plugins, or extension platforms without breaking independent consumers.
  • Experience with incremental migration, coexistence, and deprecation in large long-lived systems with active customers.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including design documents, ADRs, and RFCs.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cowork, and Copilot.
  • Preferred experience includes retail or point-of-sale, telecom retail, payments and compliance, extension platforms, multi-tenant SaaS, or major product replatforming and end-of-life migrations.
  • Ability to work effectively across time zones and become productive quickly in unfamiliar systems.
