Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotation to respond to incidents affecting Newsela.com availability.
- Maintain and extend infrastructure using Terraform, Github Actions CI/CD, and AWS services.
- Build monitoring systems that alert on symptoms rather than outages.
- Automate repeatable manual actions to reduce on-call toil.
- Improve operational processes for deployments and migrations.
- Design and maintain core cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP.
- Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack.
- Provide infrastructure planning support as an embedded team member.
- Plan the growth of Newsela’s infrastructure.
Requirements
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform and Github CI/CD.
- Proficient in managing and troubleshooting operating systems, storage, and networking.
- Skilled in implementing monitoring and instrumentation metrics.
- Familiarity with engineering practices focused on availability and scalability.
- Proficient in multiple programming languages including Shell, Python, and SQL.
- Experience with agile methodologies and project management.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to self-manage tasks asynchronously.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
