Base Salary
$122k - $181k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement systems-level software components, including low-level libraries, runtime environments, and large-scale infrastructure services.
- Optimize performance-critical code across compute, memory, storage, and network layers.
- Write automated tests for expected behaviors, failure modes, and error paths.
- Instrument systems with metrics, logging, and alerting for observability and production diagnosis.
- Participate in on-call rotations, investigate production incidents, and contribute retrospectives.
- Collaborate with product engineering, infrastructure, and data science teams to deliver systems solutions end-to-end.
- Conduct code reviews focused on code quality, correctness, performance, and AI-assisted code validation.
- Manage staged rollouts using feature flagging and incremental deployment strategies.
- Document new systems components and infrastructure updates.
- Reduce technical debt by consolidating implementations, deprecating obsolete code, and modernizing legacy systems.
Requirements
- Currently holds or is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or has equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before joining Meta.
- Has 2+ years of experience developing systems-level software in C, C++, Rust, or a comparable low-level language.
- Has experience with operating systems internals such as process management, memory management, file systems, or networking subsystems in Linux or a comparable UNIX-based environment.
- Has experience designing and implementing distributed-system components with attention to fault tolerance, consistency, and scalability.
- Has experience writing automated tests, debugging production issues with profiling and tracing tools, and building observability instrumentation.
- Can independently deliver medium to large software features from design through production while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Preferred qualifications include open-source systems software experience, responsible and ethical AI practices, prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration, AI-assisted workflow improvement, and review of AI-generated code.
- Preferred qualifications also include familiarity with container orchestration, cluster management, large-scale compute infrastructure, and systems-level performance profiling.
