Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, architecture, development, and operation of Airwallex’s data and AI platforms.
- Identify and resolve company-wide challenges through scalable data platform solutions.
- Provide visionary technical direction and hands-on leadership on complex technical problems.
- Drive best practices, craftsmanship, innovation, and technical excellence across the data platform.
- Lead initiatives across multiple teams and influence technology roadmap planning.
- Design and maintain reliable multi-geographical data pipelines at scale.
- Provide technical leadership across ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, and data security.
- Mentor data platform team members and support the development of scientists, engineers, and peers.
- Evaluate technologies and conduct proofs of concept to guide architecture decisions.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in Data Platform or an equivalent combination of work and academic exposure in a quantitative field.
- Experience leading company-wide initiatives across multiple teams or influencing technology roadmap planning.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
- Ability to balance execution and velocity with research, statistical understanding, and scalable design.
- Track record of mentoring and investing in the development of scientists, engineers, and peers.
- Experience providing technical leadership on significant ETL, metrics store, infrastructure management, and data security projects.
- Proficiency building, deploying, and maintaining reliable multi-geographical data pipelines at scale.
- Familiarity with workflow or orchestration frameworks such as Airflow and DBT.
- Preferred hands-on experience designing data processing patterns for modern Lakehouse architectures.
- Preferred experience developing framework modules, high-performance services, and client libraries for big data using GCP, Databricks, BigQuery, DataProc, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, DataFlow, Google Cloud Storage, and Airflow.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for leadership, users, and company-wide audiences.
- Ability to rapidly evaluate technologies and conduct proofs of concept in complex environments.
