Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services for the Box Automate workflow engine using Java.
- Build and optimize algorithms for workflow graph representation, traversal, and execution.
- Develop and extend the Automate meta-language for complex, variable-driven workflows.
- Collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver features.
- Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, engineering best practices, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to and triage production issues.
- Attend regular stand-ups, team meetings, and manager one-on-ones.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional software development experience with demonstrated backend development expertise.
- Proficiency in Java and strong knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithm design.
- Strong computer science foundations and comfort with graph algorithms, optimization problems, and complex computational concepts.
- Experience building scalable backend systems, including database design, caching strategies, and asynchronous processing.
- Ability to assess, communicate, and complete project milestones with managers and team members in a time-sensitive environment.
- Fluency in written and verbal English.
- Preferred: experience with workflow engines, business process management platforms, or integration frameworks such as Camunda or Flowable.
- Preferred: familiarity with automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Preferred: experience leading cross-functional projects or mentoring junior engineers.
- Preferred: experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Preferred: open-source contributions or demonstrated passion for software craftsmanship.
