Responsibilities

  • Own the full production ML lifecycle from problem framing and data exploration through training, evaluation, deployment, serving, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Make technical, cost, and product design decisions for ML and AI components across the portfolio.
  • Build reliable, testable, scalable, maintainable, and reusable ML platform capabilities for product teams.
  • Analyse production systems, identify failure modes, improve data quality, and address drift, training-serving skew, and model degradation.
  • Design and implement offline evaluations and live A/B tests to validate hypotheses.
  • Coach others, provide technical leadership on ML, collaborate with data scientists and software engineers, and communicate ML decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Simplify live systems, reduce support burden and costs, and contribute to the technical direction of the platform with engineering and data science leaders.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated production ML engineering experience across data, training, evaluation, deployment, serving, monitoring, and ongoing operations.
  • Strong data fluency with tools such as BigQuery, SQL, pandas, Dataflow, or equivalents, including the ability to treat data quality as a first-class concern.
  • Fluency in supervised and unsupervised learning, ranking models, recommendation systems, evaluation metrics, overfitting, and model selection.
  • Practical experience with GCP and AWS; GCP is the primary environment and includes Vertex AI, BigQuery, and Dataflow.
  • Strong production-grade Python skills and comfort working in codebases consumed by other engineers.
  • Experience leading the technical design of ML projects, articulating trade-offs, and driving team decisions.
  • Valued qualifications include experience with LLM-based systems, shared ML infrastructure or internal platforms, recommendation or search ranking at scale, cross-craft teams, A/B testing, experimentation platforms, and Java.
